The East Middle School 8th Grade Wildcats shook off a tough 24 – 22 loss at home to Enid last week with a dominating 50 – 24 victory over Blackwell in their first road game of the year. Seven different players scored points as the Wildcats overcame a flat first quarter to tally seven touchdowns. The starting defense for the Wildcats continued to play well and held Blackwell scoreless through the first half. Ayden Kreger started the scoring for Ponca City with a 4yd touchdown run with 2:36 remaining in the first quarter. Quarterback Aiden Wetzel got the offense on track in the second quarter and hit Wide Receiver/backup QB Lane Scholey with a 10 yard touchtown pass at the 6:53 mark. Ponca City forced a Blackwell fumble on the kickoff and then completed another scoring drive capped by a 10 run by Elijah Phillips to put the Wildcats up 18 – 0 at the half.

 

Ponca City scored on the opening drive of the second half on a 34 yd run by Elijah Phillips and Aiden Wetzel provided a 2 yd run on the conversion giving the Wildcats a 26 – 0 with 5:36 remaining in the 3rd Quarter. This was the start of a wild 3rd quarter where both sides scored a combined 30 points as Wildcat Head Coach Ty Burns put in the 2nd Defensive Unit. Blackwell showed some life on their next drive with a 47 yd touchdown pass and 2pt conversion. Elijah Phillips scored again for the Wildcats with a 41yd touchdown run with 1:37 remaining in the 3rd quarter and on the 2pt conversion. Blackwell returned the kickoff for a score ans with the conversion the score was 34 – 16 with 1:27 remaining in the 3rd quarter. Blackwell tried an onside kick that was recovered by the Wildcats on the 50 yd line. The Wildcat 2nd Offense took over for the starters and WR/QB Lane Scholey showed that he could not only catch touchdown passes but also deliver them too. Scholey hit WR Devin Zimmerschied with 6 seconds left in the quarter on a 50 yd touchdown pass and then Scholey added 2pts on a 2yd run bringing the score at the end of the 3rd quarter 42-16 Wildcats.

 

The 4th quarter saw both sides scoring as the Wildcats freely substituted backups on offense and defense. Blackwell scored on a 25 yd pass/conversion to make the score 42-24. The Wildcats capped the scorefest with a 19yd touchdown reception by Brooks Revard from Scholey. Tyson Daine made the conversion with a 2yd reception for the final score 50 – 24.

 

The Wildcat Defense also contributed to fireworks Thursday night by recording 4 takeways with an interception and 3 fumble recoveries.
