The Lady Cats got another shut out victory, 4-0. Nobody could get on the scoreboard at half, but in the 2nd half, the Lady Cats found their groove. Kiersten Crowder led the way scoring two goals. Addie Dilbeck scored on a corner kick from Kylie Hopkins and the last goal came from Kylie Hopkins. Coach Aguilar said, “The second half we calmed down and played better.” That was the last game of non district play as we move into district play coming out of spring break on March 27th vs Enid which is now known as THE Cherokee Strip Cup.
The men’s team also got a victory by the score of 3-2. The Wildcats played really well in the first half, controlling the midfield and used a lot of teamwork to create a 3-1 lead by halftime. Some mistakes in communication led to them taking a 1-0 lead but immediately scored afterwards to respond. Blake Johnson scored on a give and to assist from Josh Fairbanks. Johnson followed that up with a second goal to finish off a series of one/two passes to move up the field. He was assisted by Spencer Ball. Casan Terrazas finished off the scoring for the half by stealing the ball just outside the box and fired a great opposite upper 90 shot to put us up 3-1. Coach Steichen said, “Our midfield of Fairbanks, Terrazas and Jacob Mabry was incredibly active and controlled the flow of the match in the first half. The second half we shut down mentally and had to hold on for the win. But it will provide us with a great teaching tool and experience when we watch film. It wasn’t pretty but we showed resilience and heart to finish the match when things were going against us. Really proud of the guys to finish off before break this way.”
