Pitching was on display on Monday night in Ponca City, but in the end the Wildcats laid down a successful squeeze bunt and claimed a 2-1 win over the Enid Plainsmen. Enid came into the game on a 12 game win streak and 10-0 record in districts, but Ponca City never backed down in the ball game. Aaron Hosack struck out three Enid batters, allowing five hits and one run, for the complete game victory. The loss went to Enid starter Bradan Pierce, who was 6-0 with a 0.78 ERA coming into the game. He surrendered two runs on three hits over five innings, striking out five. Enid would strike first in the ball game with a home run from power hitting first baseman Brett Russell. After that, Hosack would settle in going three up three down in the 5th and 6th. The game went into the bottom of the 6th, still 1-0, when Tanner Denton would get on by a hit by pitch, PO Seals followed that up with a walk. With two men on Maison Steelman hit a hard shot that was bobbled by the first baseman and allowed Denton to score and Seals to advance to 3rd. Then Hosack laid down a perfect squeeze bunt, scoring Seals and giving Ponca City the lead. After getting a runner on 3rd, Hosack would come up with a huge strike out and then got Enid’s leadoff hitter to pop up to 3rd base for the final out, securing the 10th victory for the Wildcats. Ponca City won’t be able to celebrate the win long as they now travel to Enid to face the Plainsmen again today at 5:30.
