The Ponca City East Middle School 8th Grade Wildcat football team opened the season with a convincing at home win over Guthrie at Sullins Stadium. The Wildcats were led on offense by Running back Elijah Phillips #34 who scored 5 touchdowns including game opening kickoff return of 82 yards tallying the first touchdown of the 2017 season for the Wildcats. Quarterback Aiden Wetzel #1 competently guided the offense making several critical drive sustaining passes. Running Back Ayden Kreger #4 also had a 52 yd run which setup a Phillips touchdown. The Wildcats played solid defense anchored by Defense End Thomas Sober #55 and Nose Guard Austin Day #90 who each had 3 tackles for loss dooming Guthrie to a long night on both sides of the ball.

The Wildcats began the 4th quarter leading 34 – 0 allowing Head Coach Ty Burns to rest the starters and get valuable game experience for several backup players. The 8th Grade Wildcats face a tough opponent in long time rival Enid next week here at home in Ponca City Thursday September 14th 6pm scheduled kickoff.
