While Bixby defeated the Lady Cats 1-0 and the Wildcats 5-1, it was still a great night to celebrate all the accomplishments of the Senior athletes Tuesday night in Ponca City.
Head Coach Marcelo Aguilar had this to say, “My Seniors this year have been great. These young ladies from their Freshman year on have been leaders. I am really going to miss this group. Last night’s game came with a loss 1-0. We played hard just couldn’t find the back of the net.” Unfortunately with that loss, the Lady Cats were eliminated from playoff contention.
Wildcats coach Ben Steichen on Senior night, “Our seniors consist of Jose (Danny) CanizLopez, Sebastian Galindo, Andrew Longoria, Hugo Garcia, and Miguel Macias. We commend and thank them for everything they’ve done for our program and wish them the best in the future. It’s always tough to lose on a senior night, last night was no different. But we weren’t sharp enough as a team to get a victory. We showed flashes of possession but couldn’t sustain it over 80 minutes as our first touches often let us down. We still have a ways to go with this young squad to get them consistent. But I still believe the future is bright for Ponca City Wildcat soccer. I did feel like the game opened up for us as it went along but we couldn’t put shots on frame. Sophomore striker Blake Johnson got his third goal of the season off of a cross by Jacob Mabry that deflected off the goalkeeper and finished by Johnson. It was a nice boost to the finish that gives us a glimpse of what could come in future matches and seasons.”
